GARETH TAYLOR

Gareth Taylor-2.jpg

Since returning from the prestigious physical theatre school Jacques Lecoq in Paris, I have worked with some of the fastest growing physical theatre companies in the UK, including Punchdrunk, Slung Low, Dancing Brick, Tongue Tied and curious directive, the latter of which I am a creative associate and movement director.

I enjoy traditional rehearsal rooms, new devised work, character creation and early R & D development.

I'm a prolific motion and performance capture artist, recent work includes Diablo 2 - Resurrected, Hitman 2, Until Dawn, Man of Medan, and the upcoming Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2

Rehearsal video of a sandstorm during rehearsals for After the Rainfall, 2012. We used this 'scale' of sandstorm to represent an upcoming political storm, as well as a literal sandstorm in the Egyptian desert. We would also use it to clear scenes, set and characters during this fast flowing multi-layered narrative.

Reviews

"A chair, hung with a slip of fur and ably handled by an actor (Gareth Taylor), becomes a reindeer. Devised by the company...contains moments of both humour and poignancy. The cast handle the complex, multidimensional narrative with aplomb."

Your Last Breath - The Telegraph â˜…★★★

“Gareth Taylor is exceptional throughout as he turns his impressive physicality to a multitude of characters...a wonderful ability to give the most ordinary of tasks an aesthetic poetry that almost touches upon the spiritual”

Your Last Breath - Salford Online â˜…★★★

“Admirably Gareth Taylor allows John to come across as unsympathetic – more Erich von Däniken than Stephen Hawking.”

“Paired with Gareth Taylor’s movement…After The Rainfall becomes a totally immersive world – a treat for both ear and eye”

After the Rainfall - The Public Reviews  â˜…★★★

“Gareth Taylor who doubled as the movement director should take a double bow...an intelligent and engaging blend of physical performance”

“The performers are whipped and buffeted by desert winds, they are penned in on London tube trains; they balance precariously on chairs as they create their own internal flashback structure, a series of echoes of echoes”

After the Rainfall - Exeunt Magazine

“Curious Directive, who won a Fringe First in 2011 for Your Last Breath, are a hard-working bunch. Not only do they rush across the stage in perfectly choreographed formation during their newest show, After The Rainfall, but the work they put into the ambitious production before it even made it to Edinburgh should be an inspiration to all young theatre companies.”

After the Rainfall - The Stage â˜…★★★

“beautifully acted by Karina Sugden and Gareth Taylor...physically bold, visually satisfying and very original”
